A reputable company in South Africa’s fruit processing industry is looking for reliable and skilled code 14 drivers to join their team at the Kempton Park depot. With their head office in Polokwane, Limpopo, this leading processor has expanded operations and is dedicated to maintaining quality logistics and customer service standards. The successful candidate for this role will report directly to the Depot Manager and play an essential role in daily transportation and logistics tasks, ensuring that products are safely and promptly delivered.
Position Overview
Purpose
The main responsibility of the Code 14 Driver is to operate a vehicle, or heavy-duty vehicle when required, to transport products safely and efficiently between locations. This role involves loading and unloading stock while adhering to the company’s safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Driver’s day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Vehicle Operation and Asset Transportation
- Drive and operate a vehicle or heavy-duty vehicle to move assets as per designated routes.
- Ensure that all transported items are securely loaded and unloaded at the correct locations.
- Comply with all company transportation policies to uphold safety standards.
- Compliance with Loading and Offloading Procedures
- Adhere to safety protocols for loading and offloading, making sure vehicles are roadworthy and not overloaded.
- Perform thorough checks before every trip to ensure vehicles are safe and meet company and regulatory standards.
- Stock Management
- Assist with various stock-related tasks, such as picking, loading, offloading, and rotating inventory as needed.
- Conduct quality checks on inventory and report any discrepancies or damages.
- Administrative Tasks
- Complete all required paperwork, including delivery logs and stock forms, in line with company procedures.
- Ensure that documentation is accurate and up-to-date to facilitate smooth record-keeping and compliance.
- Punctual and Professional Deliveries
- Maintain a reliable delivery schedule, ensuring that all products are delivered on time to clients.
- Display a customer-focused attitude, treating clients with respect and professionalism during each interaction.
- Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing client needs and resolving any minor issues that may arise.
- Represent the company positively, always adhering to customer service guidelines.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate for this Driver role must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Matric (Grade 12).
- Licensing: Valid heavy-duty (Code 14) driver’s license and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Experience: At least 3 years of prior driving experience in a food production or related environment.
- Technical Skills: Basic technical skills are preferred. The ability to troubleshoot and perform minor vehicle repairs is an advantage.
- Attention to Detail: The candidate should be methodical and detail-oriented, capable of following structured processes for loading, driving, and unloading stock.
- Pressure Management: The role requires someone who can work well under pressure and meet tight schedules without compromising on quality or safety.
- Customer Focus: Must have a client-first mindset, able to engage with customers respectfully while ensuring timely deliveries.
- Self-Management: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks and managing time effectively.
- Leadership Qualities: Although not in a managerial position, the driver should be disciplined and able to demonstrate responsible behaviour and reliability.
- Administrative Skills: Basic ability to complete and submit accurate paperwork related to deliveries and stock.
- Clean Criminal Record: This position requires a clear criminal background.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with proficiency in time management, ensuring clear and efficient communication with both the team and clients.
