Position Overview

As a Funeral Driver, you will be responsible for providing safe, dignified, and reliable transportation of the deceased and their families. This position demands a high level of responsibility, respect, and discretion. You will be driving our fleet of vehicles for funeral processions and other related services. Additionally, you will ensure that vehicles are well-maintained, cleaned, and ready for service.

Being part of a funeral procession requires not only a good driving skillset but also an understanding of funeral etiquette and a respectful approach towards grieving families. Your role will be essential in creating a seamless and dignified experience for those we serve.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safe and Respectful Transportation
   • Drive funeral vehicles, including hearses and family cars, to transport the deceased and their family members safely.
   • Follow designated routes and schedules with precision, ensuring timely arrival and departure for each service.
2. Adherence to Funeral Protocols
   • Maintain a high level of professionalism during funeral processions, observing the traditions and protocols associated with each service.
   • Coordinate with other funeral staff to ensure seamless service delivery and to manage any unexpected situations.
3. Vehicle Maintenance and Presentation
   • Conduct pre-drive inspections to ensure vehicles are in excellent condition, both mechanically and aesthetically.
   • Clean and sanitize vehicles regularly to maintain a high standard of hygiene and presentation.
   • Report any mechanical issues to the relevant department for prompt repairs.
4. Customer Service and Support
   • Offer a comforting and composed presence to grieving families, maintaining a calm and respectful demeanor at all times.
   • Provide assistance to family members or pallbearers as needed, ensuring a smooth and organized experience.
   • Communicate with funeral directors and other team members to understand specific needs and preferences for each service.
5. Administrative Duties
   • Complete any necessary paperwork related to vehicle usage, mileage, and maintenance.
   • Ensure compliance with company policies, road safety regulations, and health and safety protocols.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for the position of Funeral Driver at Noko Funerals, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Matric Certificate
   A matric certificate is mandatory, ensuring that all candidates possess a foundational level of education.
2. Driver’s Licence (Code 10) & Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
   Applicants must hold a valid Code 10 driver’s licence as well as a Professional Driving Permit (PDP). This certification is essential for the legal transportation of passengers and demonstrates a commitment to road safety.
3. Experience in Driving (Minimum of 3 Years)
   We require a minimum of three years of professional driving experience, ensuring that candidates are comfortable and capable in managing a funeral vehicle. Experience in transporting passengers in sensitive settings is an added advantage.
4. Advantageous: Sales Experience
   While not mandatory, previous experience in sales can be beneficial. As part of our team, you may have opportunities to interact with families and discuss additional services offered by Noko Funerals, so a background in sales can be useful.
5. Local Residency Requirement
   Applicants must be based in Northam. Local candidates will be familiar with the area and able to respond swiftly to the needs of our operations, ensuring efficiency and timeliness.
