RCL Foodcorp is seeking a dedicated code 14 driver to join our Randfontein team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled, safety-conscious driver to contribute to one of South Africa’s leading food manufacturing and distribution companies.
If you’re ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role, read on for more information about the role and how to apply.
Role Overview
At RCL Foodcorp, our drivers play an essential role in ensuring that our products reach customers safely and on time.
As an Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, you’ll be responsible for operating ultra-heavy vehicles to transport goods efficiently, often navigating various terrains, challenging routes, and strict schedules.
This role is perfect for a seasoned driver with a commitment to safety, a clean driving record, and extensive experience handling ultra-heavy vehicles and complex combinations like Superlinks or Interlinks.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As part of our team, you’ll have a wide range of responsibilities, covering everything from vehicle preparation to post-trip inspections. Here’s a look at what your role will entail:
- Vehicle Preparation and Operation: Before each trip, you’ll conduct thorough inspections of the vehicle to ensure it’s in prime operating condition. This includes checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and other essential components.
- Loading and Offloading: You will handle the loading, securing, and unloading of products, which may include bulk dry goods or cement. Familiarity with loading techniques is essential to ensure the load is stable and transported safely.
- Documentation Management: You’ll be responsible for managing and recording all necessary documentation for each trip, such as delivery notes, load manifests, and any incident reports.
- Safety Compliance and Procedures: Adhering to safety protocols is a top priority at RCL Foodcorp. You’ll be expected to follow all SOPs and safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE and fire safety equipment.
- Communication with Supervisor: Open communication is critical. You’ll be required to follow instructions from your supervisor, report any issues or defects, and provide updates on the progress of each trip.
- Vehicle and Personal Presentation: Housekeeping is also part of the role, meaning you’re responsible for keeping your vehicle and PPE clean and well-maintained.
Additional Requirements
In addition to your duties, RCL Foodcorp expects drivers to meet a variety of qualifications to ensure both safety and efficiency on the road:
- Educational Qualification: A minimum of Grade 12 (National Certificate) is required. This is essential to ensure comprehension of transport regulations and procedural documents.
- Valid License and Experience:
- Code EC Driver’s License with PrDP: This license is critical as it allows the holder to operate ultra-heavy vehicles legally in South Africa.
- 3 Years of Relevant Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in ultra-heavy vehicle operation, including handling complex combinations like Superlink or Interlink configurations, is essential.
- Dry Bulk or Cement Transport Experience: Prior experience transporting dry bulk materials or cement will be highly advantageous, as this requires particular skills for loading and securing such cargo.
- Safety Awareness and Defensive Driving:
- You must be proficient in defensive driving techniques, able to anticipate and mitigate potential hazards while on the road.
- A clean driving record and criminal record are non-negotiable, as we prioritize safety and compliance.
- Medical Fitness: Since driving heavy vehicles can be physically demanding, candidates must undergo a medical evaluation to confirm fitness for the role.
- Personal Transport: You’ll need reliable personal transport to and from our Randfontein facility. Punctuality and consistency are key to keeping our operations running smoothly.
- Shift Flexibility:
- Preparedness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, is required. Flexibility is a core part of the job, as delivery schedules may vary.
- Drivers are expected to be available for a shift schedule that supports our busy distribution network.
Training and Development
At RCL Foodcorp, we believe in continual development. Successful candidates will undergo multiple training modules and evaluations to ensure they’re fully equipped to handle their responsibilities. Here’s what to expect:
- USCS Training Modules: We provide industry-standard training to enhance your skills and knowledge, preparing you for any situation on the road.
- Safety and Induction Process: New employees are required to complete a comprehensive induction program, which covers all safety protocols and company policies.
- Driving and Practical Evaluations: A driving assessment is part of the hiring process. We want to see your driving skills in action, ensuring you meet our high standards for road safety and vehicle handling.
