About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Code 10 Driver to join our team in Pietermaritzburg. This critical role ensures that our premium seeds and related products are delivered efficiently and safely to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties as a Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver will include the following:
1. Safe and Efficient Deliveries:
- Transport goods to and from various locations, ensuring that delivery schedules are met.
- Supervise and assist with the loading of the delivery vehicle, ensuring all items are loaded securely and correctly.
- Verify that goods loaded match the Delivery Notes, signing off to confirm acceptance of the load.
- Conduct checks during offloading with the customer to ensure goods align with the Delivery Note. Obtain the customer’s signature as Proof of Delivery (POD).
2. Payment and Documentation:
- Collect payment from customers for Cash on Delivery (COD) orders and ensure all monies are safely handed over to the Dispatch Supervisor upon return to the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate and organised documentation for all deliveries and collections, including PODs and Goods Return Vouchers (GRVs).
3. Handling Returns and Customer Service:
- Collect goods for return as per Goods Return Vouchers and ensure they are safely delivered back to the warehouse.
- Uphold Starke Ayres’ high standards by ensuring goods are delivered in a clean, saleable condition with neat packaging.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
4. Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform daily and weekly vehicle checks using the company’s checklist, reporting any defects or potential issues to the Dispatch Supervisor immediately.
- Maintain the delivery vehicle in a clean and roadworthy condition at all times, taking responsibility for routine maintenance and cleanliness.
5. Scheduling and Reporting:
- Maintain a detailed vehicle delivery schedule, recording arrival and departure times, and ensure that the schedule is signed off by customers.
- Assist in depot operations when no driving duties are required, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented approach.
What We’re Looking For
Education and Licensing:
- Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (essential).
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License (essential).
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Code 10 driver, handling vehicles up to 16 tonnes.
- Additional experience as a delivery assistant or similar logistics role is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate deliveries and minimise errors.
- A polished and professional appearance to represent Starke Ayres positively.
- Excellent communication skills with a good understanding of customer service principles.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities and a high level of accountability.
Additional Requirements:
- Own transport is advantageous but not mandatory.
- A commitment to teamwork and a willingness to assist in depot operations when needed.
