About the Role

As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, you will play a critical role in transporting goods safely and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include preparing and operating ultra-heavy vehicles, loading and offloading cargo, and adhering to strict safety and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Education and Certification

  • Grade 12 or National Certificate.
  • Valid Code EC driver’s license with a current PrDP.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience driving ultra-heavy vehicles.
  • At least 3 years of experience operating Superlink/Interlink/combination vehicles.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficiency in defensive driving techniques.
  • Knowledge of vehicle inspections and operating fire extinguishers.
  • Familiarity with loading and offloading techniques.
  • Strong understanding of maximizing vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Clean criminal record and medically fit to perform job duties.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have own reliable transport to and from work.
  • Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and shifts.

Key Responsibilities

As a driver in this role, you will be responsible for:

1. Vehicle Preparation and Operation

  • Prepare the vehicle for trips and ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Safely operate ultra-heavy vehicles to transport goods efficiently.

2. Loading and Offloading

  • Load and unload cargo following proper techniques to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Handle all required documentation accurately.

3. Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and promote a culture of safety.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections, report defects, and respond to emergencies appropriately.
  • Participate in safety training, medical evaluations, and practical driving evaluations.

4. Maintenance and Housekeeping

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of vehicles, uniforms, and PPE.
  • Ensure the vehicle remains in optimal condition and complies with company standards.

5. Reporting and Communication

  • Follow proper reporting procedures for emergencies and vehicle defects.
  • Complete all ancillary duties as instructed by the supervisor.
