Ultra-Heavy Vehicle Driver Vacancy in Johannesburg
Unitrans is seeking a professional and experienced Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join its Consumer Division in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of goods to customers while ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, company procedures, and customer service standards.
This role is ideal for experienced Code 14 drivers looking to build a long-term career within one of South Africa’s leading logistics and supply chain companies.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
- Minimum Grade 10 literacy and numeracy skills.
- Valid Code EC (Code 14) Driver’s Licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) with Dangerous Goods Permit (DGP).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience driving ultra-heavy motor vehicles.
- Must be 25 years of age or older.
- Clean criminal record.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Preparation and Operation
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and prepare vehicles for transportation duties.
- Operate ultra-heavy vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with company operating procedures and road traffic regulations.
- Perform daily vehicle checks and report any defects or mechanical issues.
Loading, Transport and Offloading
- Load, transport, and offload goods safely and accurately.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured before departure.
- Prevent vehicle overloading in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- Operate offloading equipment where required or supervise the offloading process.
- Open and close tarpaulins where applicable.
Documentation and Compliance
- Complete all required transport and delivery documentation.
- Follow emergency reporting procedures and defect reporting processes.
- Adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, deliveries, and vehicle inspections.
Customer Service
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers.
- Ensure deliveries are completed efficiently and according to customer requirements.
- Represent the company positively during all customer interactions.
Housekeeping and Safety
- Maintain cleanliness and good condition of vehicles.
- Ensure uniforms and PPE are used correctly and maintained.
- Promote a safe working environment and comply with all safety procedures.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Defensive driving techniques.
- Knowledge of vehicle components and systems.
- Understanding of vehicle loading and cargo securing procedures.
- Ability to conduct vehicle inspections.
- Knowledge of fire extinguisher operation and emergency procedures.
- Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
