Key Responsibilities
As an Artisan Diesel Mechanic, you will be expected to:
Vehicle Servicing and Repairs
- Conduct regular servicing of the fleet, ensuring all work aligns with provided checklists.
- Diagnose issues and carry out necessary repairs promptly, particularly during breakdowns.
- Inform management of diagnoses and the status of repairs during breakdown situations.
- Maintain compliance with legal standards and company policies for vehicle upkeep.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Strictly adhere to Health and Safety regulations during servicing, repairs, and on-site breakdowns.
- Implement appropriate safety measures to prevent accidents or hazards during work operations.
Fleet Maintenance and Documentation
- Ensure buses are roadworthy and meet legal requirements.
- Complete all required checklists and reports during servicing or repairs.
- Take responsibility for auxiliary equipment and ensure its functionality alongside the fleet.
Breakdown Assistance
- Attend to breakdowns promptly, ensuring that the fleet is restored to operational condition as quickly as possible.
- Diagnose complex mechanical issues efficiently and propose effective solutions.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education and Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) or National Certificate.
- Fully qualified Artisan Diesel Mechanic with a recognised Trade Test Certificate.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the transport and logistics sector.
- Proven knowledge and hands-on expertise in servicing and maintaining buses.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Sound knowledge of fleet servicing and breakdown protocols.
- Proficient in general administrative tasks related to vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable own transport to travel to and from the workplace.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
