About the Role

Astral – Festive is seeking skilled and experienced Code 14 Drivers to join our team on a temporary contract. This position involves the transportation of goods using ultra-heavy-duty vehicles, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient delivery. Key Responsibilities

As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, your main responsibilities will include:

1. Vehicle Operation:
   • Prepare the vehicle for trips and operate ultra-heavy-duty vehicles efficiently and safely.
   • Adhere to defensive driving techniques to ensure road safety at all times.
2. Loading and Offloading:
   • Oversee and assist with the loading, transportation, and offloading of goods using proper techniques.
   • Ensure the load is secured in compliance with safety regulations and the National Road Traffic Act.
3. Documentation Management:
   • Handle all required trip documentation accurately and ensure it is submitted promptly.
4. Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection:
   • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to identify defects or issues.
   • Operate fire extinguishers and report any emergencies or mechanical problems to the supervisor.
5. Adherence to Safety Protocols:
   • Follow company SOPs and safety procedures to maintain a secure work environment.
   • Promote a culture of safety by complying with all operational guidelines.
6. General Duties:
   • Perform ancillary duties as assigned by the supervisor.
   • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the vehicle, uniform, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
   • Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
7. On-the-Job Evaluations:
   • Successfully complete medical evaluations, induction processes, and practical driving assessments.
   • Undergo training modules, including USCS certifications.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education:
  • Grade 12 / National Certificate.
• Licensing & Experience:
  • Code EC driver’s license with a valid PrDP.
  • At least 3 years of experience driving ultra-heavy vehicles, including Superlink/Interlink combinations.
  • Experience with refrigerated vehicles and tail lifts is required.
• Skills & Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in vehicle loading and offloading techniques.
  • Knowledge of emergency and defect reporting procedures.
  • Familiarity with maximizing vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Defensive driving techniques and vehicle component functions.
• Other Requirements:
  • Clean criminal record and medically fit.
  • Reliable transport to and from the workplace.
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays, and shifts as required.
