Job Overview

As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver at Greif, you will play a key role in the transportation of goods to various clients. You will be responsible for preparing and operating ultra-heavy vehicles, ensuring that all goods are safely loaded, transported, and offloaded according to company procedures and safety regulations. This position requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean driving record.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this position:

  • License: Code EC Driver’s License with a valid PrDP (DGP).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience driving an Ultra-Heavy Vehicle.
  • Age: Must be 25 years or older.
  • Skills:
    • Defensive driving techniques.
    • Knowledge of the function and location of vehicle components.
    • Proficiency in vehicle inspections and reporting procedures for emergencies and defects.
    • Ability to operate a fire extinguisher.
    • Competence in vehicle loading techniques to maximize cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Operation: Prepare the vehicle for trips and operate ultra-heavy duty vehicles in compliance with the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Loading & Unloading: Responsible for the safe loading, transportation, and offloading of goods, either by operating offloading equipment or overseeing the process.
  • Documentation: Handle all required documentation related to the transport and delivery of goods, and perform ancillary duties as needed.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safety Procedures.
    • Ensure the vehicle is not overloaded and maintain proper housekeeping of vehicles, uniforms, and PPE.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact with clients in a professional and efficient manner to ensure high levels of customer service.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Follow all reasonable instructions from supervisors.
    • Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
    • Maintain a safe driving record and a clean criminal record.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work weekends and public holidays.
  • Successful completion of:
    • Medical evaluation.
    • USCS training modules.
    • Induction processes.
    • Practical driving evaluation.
    • Verification of a clean criminal record.
