Job Overview
As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of diesel and petrol machines, motor vehicles, pumps, and generators within the company. This role is crucial in ensuring that all mechanical issues are diagnosed, identified, and rectified efficiently. You will also play a key role in maintaining the operational readiness of all company vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Vehicle Servicing: Perform servicing on company vehicles following predefined checklists.
- Breakdown Repairs: Attend to vehicle and equipment breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs, particularly on Earth Moving Equipment.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Apply Health & Safety rules and regulations in all aspects of the job to ensure a safe working environment.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and comply with legal requirements and company policies.
- Workplace Maintenance: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment at all times.
- Reporting: Regularly report to management on breakdowns, services, and other relevant matters.
- Ancillary Duties: Perform additional duties as determined by management on an ongoing basis.
Minimum Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Qualification: Qualified Artisan or completion of a 5-year recognized apprenticeship.
- Experience: Up to 3 years of relevant experience.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license, preferably an EC (Code 14).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repairs: Overhaul or replace components such as carburettors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Rebuild parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
- Work Planning: Plan work procedures and ensure timely execution of tasks.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety rules, legal requirements, and company policies at all times.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members and provide regular updates to management.
