Purpose of Job:

As a Diesel Mechanic Artisan, you will be responsible for observing the operation of automotive machines and ensuring conformance to specifications and quality standards to meet production targets.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate competence in pre-identified areas per discipline of the plant/mine/equipment/systems.
  • Understand and utilise the plant maintenance documentation system.
  • Participate in planning work management systems and daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments.
  • Comply with Safety Management Systems (e.g., IMS, MBO).
  • Apply emergency procedures and implement task risk assessments.
  • Participate in root cause analyses and risk assessments to improve safety.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to waste disposal procedures.
  • Share knowledge with junior artisans and mentor learners/artisans.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors and participate in quarterly performance appraisals.
  • Lead by example, contributing to overall maintenance strategy and direction.
  • Conduct My IMS (physical inspections) to maintain and improve plant sustainability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Formal Education: Grade 12/ N3 with English, Maths, and Physical Science.
  • Certifications: NQF level 4 Diesel Mechanic Trade Test, Flameproof Certificate, Gas Testing Certificate.
  • Experience: 0 – 5+ relevant years of experience.
