Job Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Code 10 Truck Driver is to transport goods using heavy motor vehicles (with a gross vehicle weight of up to 15,000 kg). In this role, you will be tasked with driving to and from various locations to deliver and collect goods efficiently and safely. You will also be responsible for vehicle maintenance, record-keeping, and ensuring the safe handling of all deliveries.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supervising and Assisting with Vehicle Loading:

  • Oversee the proper loading of the delivery vehicle, ensuring goods are secured and safely packed.
  • Work closely with the Dispatch Clerk to ensure that all items loaded match the details on the Delivery Note.
  • Sign off on the load once everything is confirmed, taking responsibility for the goods being transported.

2. Delivery and Off-Loading:

  • Upon arrival at the delivery location, verify the goods being off-loaded against the Delivery Note and ensure the customer signs the document as Proof of Delivery (POD).
  • In case of any missing or incorrect items, coordinate with the customer to list and sign for any discrepancies, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.

3. Handling Returns:

  • As part of your delivery route, you may be required to collect returns. These items must be logged according to the Goods Return Voucher (GRV) provided.
  • Return the collected items along with the GRV documentation to the Depot/Stores/Despatch Supervisor upon completion of your route.

4. Vehicle Maintenance and Reporting:

  • Perform routine daily and weekly vehicle inspections using the company’s Vehicle Checklist. Ensure all aspects of the vehicle, including brakes, tires, and fluids, are in good working condition.
  • Promptly report any vehicle defects or concerns to the Depot/Stores/Despatch Supervisor to avoid any disruptions to deliveries.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and ensure it is roadworthy at all times.

5. Adherence to Company Policies:

  • Follow all company protocols and policies related to vehicle operation, delivery procedures, and customer interaction.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism when interacting with customers, ensuring timely and courteous service.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

1. Educational Background:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) is a mandatory requirement for this position.

2. Driver’s License:

  • A valid Code 10 Driver’s License is required. This license must be current and allow you to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 15,000 kg.

3. Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a delivery assistant is essential. This experience must demonstrate your capability in loading, unloading, and managing delivery schedules.

4. Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as you will be interacting with customers, depot staff, and supervisors daily. A customer-oriented attitude and the ability to work well with others are essential traits for success in this role.
