Tyre Maintenance Controller Position Available – Gqeberha

Job Title: Tyre Maintenance Controller
Job Type: Full-Time

Purpose of the Job:

The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for overseeing all tyre bay functions, ensuring optimal tyre performance, and maintaining stock and tyre maintenance standards as per company policies. This includes routine tyre surveys, maintenance, and attending to breakdowns, with a focus on adhering to safety standards and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Stock Management

  • Ensure tyre stock is securely locked and monitored at all times.
  • Conduct daily investigations and reports on stock discrepancies.
  • Assist with monthly stock cycle counts and ensure adequate stock levels.

2. Tyre Surveys and Maintenance

  • Travel to designated sites as required.
  • Prioritize tyre maintenance based on the fleet list provided by your supervisor.
  • Conduct daily tyre surveys using the Intersect tyre management software, with manual documentation when the system is unavailable.
  • Accurately capture information such as brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth readings.
  • Ensure all vehicles are inspected monthly, including spare wheels.
  • Spray spare wheels with red paint for identification and report missing spares.
  • Ensure wheel nuts are torqued, and wheel nut securing indicators are installed where needed.
  • Record photos of scrap tyres and removed tyres and submit daily updates to the supervisor on the status of surveyed vehicles.

3. Tyre Replacement

  • Identify and replace tyres that are smooth, punctured, or damaged, following standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Complete tyre change slips accurately and promptly, ensuring they are actioned daily.

4. Breakdown Assistance

  • Prepare breakdown support vehicles with the correct tyre sizes and quantities before heading to breakdown sites.
  • Attend to tyre-related breakdowns quickly, prioritizing urgency while following South African driving regulations.
  • Complete all breakdown reports and tyre change slips for removed and fitted tyres.
  • Return damaged tyres to the depot, ensuring all change slips are properly actioned.

5. Company Equipment and Assets Management

  • Keep tyre maintenance tablets securely locked when not in use, and submit vehicle checklists daily to the supervisor.
  • Park and secure vehicles when not in use and ensure vehicle keys are stored safely after every shift.
  • Report any accidents or vehicle damage immediately.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are functioning correctly, and submit weekly tool checklists to your supervisor.
  • Report defective tools for repair or replacement.

6. Health and Safety

  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, especially when working with dangerous goods.
  • Ensure the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
  • Report any health and safety concerns, hazards, or near misses to your supervisor immediately.

7. General Duties

  • Follow company procedures and policies regarding SOPs, training, HR policies, POPIA compliance, dress code, and attendance.
  • Assist with any additional company requirements as needed.
  • Be prepared for occasional weekend work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Driver’s License: Code B (essential).
  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience with heavy-duty tyre maintenance.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Driving Skills: Able to drive to various locations for tyre maintenance and breakdown support.
  • Tyre Maintenance Knowledge: Capable of executing tyre maintenance and managing stock effectively.
  • Communication: Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledgeable about basic health and safety procedures relevant to tyre maintenance.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify hazards and follow direct instructions for resolving issues.
