Minimum Requirements:

To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • Education: A Grade 10 literacy level, both verbally and numerically literate.
  • Driver’s License: A valid Code EC Driver’s License with an accompanying PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) for Dangerous Goods (DGP).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience driving Ultra-Heavy Vehicles. Familiarity with Moffatt Operation is required.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work on weekends, public holidays, and shifts as needed.
  • Safety Skills: Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and procedures for handling vehicle emergencies and defects.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Understanding of the function and location of essential vehicle components.
  • Additional Skills: Experience with vehicle inspections, operating fire extinguishers, and vehicle loading techniques to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Clean Record: A safe driving record and no criminal history are required.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver for Everite, your responsibilities will include:

 

1. Trip Preparation and Vehicle Operation

You will be tasked with preparing the ultra-heavy vehicle for trips, which includes conducting thorough vehicle inspections, ensuring all parts are functioning correctly, and that the load is within legal limits as per the National Road Traffic Act. Once prepared, you will safely operate the vehicle to transport goods to various client locations, adhering to all road safety and company protocols.

 

2. Loading, Transporting, and Offloading Goods

You will be responsible for the loading of goods onto the vehicle, ensuring the load is securely fastened for transport. You’ll also oversee the offloading process, which may involve operating equipment or coordinating with others to ensure the process is smooth and efficient. Opening and closing of tarpaulins, where applicable, is also part of this duty.

 

3. Handling Documentation

Part of your role will be to manage all the necessary documentation, including delivery receipts and waybills. Accurate and timely completion of these documents is essential to ensure smooth transactions and delivery records.

 

4. Adherence to Safety Protocols

You’ll strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety procedures during all deliveries. This includes conducting regular vehicle inspections, using fire extinguishers when needed, and ensuring that all loads are within safety regulations. Any emergencies or vehicle defects must be reported immediately.

 

5. Client Interaction

You will often be the face of Everite when dealing with clients, so a high level of professionalism and efficiency is required. You will be expected to interact with clients politely, handle any concerns, and ensure that deliveries are made on time and in a professional manner.

 

6. Housekeeping and Compliance

It’s your responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, your uniform, and personal protective equipment (PPE). You’ll also be required to promote and adhere to safety standards and company policies at all times.

To ensure you are fully equipped for the job, you will also need to:

 

  • Complete a medical evaluation to confirm fitness for the job.
  • Undergo training and assessments, such as USCS training modules, and pass the company’s induction processes.
  • Successfully complete a practical driving evaluation to prove your ability to handle ultra-heavy vehicles.
  • Undergo a criminal background check to verify your clean record.
