Location: Visible Policing and Operations – External Deployment and Mobilisation Support, Pretoria
Remuneration Level: Band A – R226,188 per annum

Position Overview
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is seeking dedicated and competent Drivers (Constable) to join the Visible Policing and Operations team in Pretoria. This role is responsible for supporting operational and mobilisation activities, including the management of a specialised vehicle fleet for national deployments. Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following general requirements:
- Competency in post-specific core functions.
- Languages: Proficiency in at least two official languages, including English.
- Educational Qualification: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) on NQF Level 4.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license (Code EB, C1, C, EC1, or EC) and a valid Public Driving Permit (PDP).
- Citizenship: South African Citizen.
- Criminal Record: No criminal or departmental convictions or pending cases.
- Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
- Security Screening: All applicants will undergo vetting, including fingerprint verification.
- Communication Skills: Proficient in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
- Availability: Ability to work under pressure and for extended hours as needed.
Additional Requirements
- Experience: 3-4 years of professional driving experience.
- Licenses: Must hold a valid Code EB, C1, C, EC1, or EC driver’s license and Public Drivers Permit (PDP).
Key Responsibilities
The Driver (Constable) will handle the following core duties:
- Fleet Administration:
- Oversee the administration of both armoured and operational vehicle fleets.
- Ensure compliance with SAPS standards for vehicle usage, registration, and maintenance.
- Transport Coordination:
- Manage and coordinate transportation for personnel, equipment, and vehicles on a national level.
- Prepare, load, and offload vehicles as needed to meet operational demands.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of assigned vehicles.
- Report any damage or losses and ensure vehicles are in optimal condition.
- Policy Compliance:
- Adhere to National Instruction 4 of 2011 (State Vehicles) and National Instruction 2 of 2022 (Armoured Vehicles).
- Assist in developing policies and procedures for mobilising allocated vehicles.
- Performance Reporting:
- Provide detailed reports on fleet operations and activities to the Section Head of Mobilisation Support for SAPS Annual Report submissions.
- Maintain compliance with the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
