Are you an experienced code 10 driver with a knack for sales? RCL Foods is on the hunt for a dedicated Driver Salesman to join our team in Kokstad, under our baking division. This role combines driving, customer interaction, and sales responsibilities to ensure that our products are delivered efficiently and that our customers receive top-notch service. Position Overview

As a Driver Salesman, you’ll be responsible for the transportation and sales of bread and confectionery products to various customers, including retail stores and independent traders. This is more than a driving role; you’ll be the face of RCL Foods on the road, handling orders, delivering products, managing transactions, and acquiring new customers. You will report to the Sales Manager and play a key role in maintaining our strong customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Dress and Vehicle Maintenance

  • Wear prescribed PPE and maintain a clean, presentable appearance to represent RCL Foods professionally.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of your vehicle’s cabin and the loading area to comply with health and safety standards.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections according to company checklists and report any issues to the supervisor for prompt repairs.
  • Drive responsibly, adhering to all road regulations, and ensure the safety of yourself, passengers, and other road users.

Stock Handling and Loading

  • Confirm that the stock loaded matches customer orders. Report any discrepancies to the Despatch Supervisor.
  • Sign off on loading sheets once satisfied with the accuracy of the load, including the count of crates and quality of stock.
  • Securely load the vehicle to prevent any stock damage or loss during transit.
  • Assist in loading and unloading when needed and maintain a record of crates delivered and returned.

Customer Interaction and Sales

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, ensuring that all interactions are friendly, respectful, and professional.
  • Identify opportunities to increase daily sales with existing customers and explore potential new customer leads.
  • Implement promotions and drive sales growth in consultation with the sales manager.
  • Report any customer issues, such as delays or complaints, and work proactively to maintain high customer service standards.

Delivery Management

  • Ensure accurate delivery of orders to customers, keeping track of stock levels to meet all customer requirements on your route.
  • Coordinate with the sales team for stock replenishment if orders exceed the stock on the truck.
  • Collect returned crates and additional products or materials from other locations, as directed.

Transactional and Cash Handling

  • Secure cash transactions using the vehicle safe and immediately deposit cash received.
  • Complete all delivery and transaction paperwork accurately, including invoices, delivery notes, crate control documents, and vehicle logs.
  • Cash up with the Cash Up Clerk upon return, ensuring all transactions balance with stock delivered.

Competitor and Market Awareness

  • Gather information on competitor products, pricing, and customer preferences, helping RCL Foods remain competitive in the market.

General Assistance

  • Be prepared to assist in other areas of the business as needed, including the duties of a van assistant or loader.
  • Comply with all health and safety standards as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and report any health concerns that may impact driving performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12).
  • Licence: Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of truck driving experience within the FMCG sector. Experience in cash sales and working with retail chains is advantageous.
