Job Description
Job Title: Diesel Mechanic
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Isando, Gauteng
About the Position
We are looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Isando. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining, servicing, and repairing a fleet of diesel-powered vehicles, ensuring each vehicle operates safely and efficiently. This role demands a keen eye for detail, strong mechanical knowledge, and a commitment to quality workmanship. Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Perform comprehensive inspections and diagnostic assessments on all vehicles before repairs.
- Interpret and verify workshop job cards for accuracy and completeness before starting repairs.
- Adhere to flat-rate pricing on repairs to maintain consistency and control costs.
- Carry out maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
- Replace worn or damaged parts, including oils, filters, belts, and other components, ensuring each part is booked on the job card.
- Perform all necessary adjustments, calibration, and repairs to restore vehicle functionality.
- Document each task performed on the job card to maintain accurate service records.
Operational and Workshop Support
- Prepare the work bay with the necessary equipment and parts for each job.
- Conduct visual inspections and utilize testing equipment to confirm the vehicle’s roadworthiness and functionality post-repair.
- Identify and report any unusual wear or damage to the Workshop Foreman, and recommend additional repairs if needed.
- Handle disassembled parts appropriately, including the return of unusable or recyclable components.
- Reset maintenance indicators and service stickers as required by internal processes.
- Ensure all completed vehicles meet company standards before releasing them back to service.
Breakdown Assistance and After-Hours Support
- Attend to on-site breakdowns during regular office hours and be available for after-hours call-outs when necessary.
- Ensure that vehicles are secure and safely out of gear before performing any roadside repairs.
Safety, Compliance, and Housekeeping
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and equipment are stored safely at the end of each shift.
- Adhere to the company’s dress code and maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- Certification: Trade-tested Diesel Mechanic qualification.
- Experience: 3-4 years in a workshop environment, specifically with the maintenance and repair of trucks.
- Advantageous: Prior experience with UD vehicles will be a significant asset.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of diesel engines, heavy-duty vehicle systems, and diagnostic procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot wear, damage, or irregularities that may affect vehicle performance.

- Time Management: Ability to adhere to flat-rate repair times while ensuring high standards of quality.
