Job Overview
TimberCity Mossel Bay, a key division of The Building Company, is seeking a skilled and reliable Forklift Drivers to join our team. This role is integral to our operations, as it involves handling and moving heavy or bulk materials efficiently and safely, supporting both warehouse and retail functions.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for loading, unloading, stacking, and relocating goods, ensuring that deliveries and stock movements are handled promptly and with care.

As a Forklift Driver, you’ll contribute to smooth warehouse operations and help maintain high standards of customer service by ensuring that materials are moved accurately and efficiently.
You’ll also be responsible for performing routine maintenance on the forklift, assisting with inventory management, and adhering to health and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
1. Forklift Operation
- Safe Handling of Equipment: You will be operating a forklift, Hyster, or sand loader, depending on the needs of the day. Your main responsibility will be to ensure that these machines are used safely and effectively, maintaining the flow of goods throughout the store and warehouse.
- Loading and Unloading: Efficiently load and unload heavy and bulk items, which may include materials for construction, furniture, or other retail goods. Precision in handling is crucial to prevent damage to goods.
- Movement of Goods: You’ll handle the movement of stock between various sections of the warehouse, assisting with the daily organization of products to streamline operations and prepare for customer orders.
2. Reading and Interpreting Invoices
- Invoice Management: Your role requires you to accurately interpret and follow invoices and delivery notes, ensuring that the correct items are loaded, stacked, and stored as per the order requirements.
- Inventory Control: Verifying and checking off items against invoices helps maintain accuracy in stock levels, preventing errors in order fulfillment and minimizing discrepancies in inventory records.
3. Forklift Maintenance
- Routine Inspections: Perform daily inspections of the forklift before use to ensure it is in good working condition. This includes checking fuel or battery levels, brakes, steering, and tires.
- Reporting Issues: Any malfunctions or maintenance requirements should be reported promptly. You’ll play a role in maintaining the equipment’s longevity by addressing minor issues and notifying management of any repairs needed.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the forklift clean and free of debris to ensure safety and efficient operation.
4. Warehouse Organization and Stock Management
- Goods Location and Stacking: As part of your role, you will locate, stack, and pack goods in designated areas. Efficient and safe stacking is essential to maintain order and accessibility in the warehouse.
- Optimizing Space: By organizing goods strategically, you’ll help maximize warehouse space and maintain an orderly environment that promotes safety and efficiency.
- Assisting with Stocktaking: Periodic stocktaking requires teamwork, and you may be called upon to assist in checking and recording stock levels.
5. Customer Service and Interaction
- Supporting Sales Team: Occasionally, you may be required to assist the sales team by retrieving products from the warehouse and bringing them to the sales floor for customers.
- Customer Queries: As a visible representative of TimberCity, you may have interactions with customers who need assistance or directions. Your role involves providing friendly, professional service and helping to create a positive customer experience.

6. Adhering to Health and Safety Standards
- Following Safety Protocols: Compliance with health and safety regulations is mandatory. You’ll be required to follow safety protocols when operating the forklift, stacking goods, and handling heavy items.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wearing the appropriate PPE, such as gloves, high-visibility clothing, and safety shoes, is required while working in the warehouse.
- Maintaining a Safe Workspace: Keeping aisles clear, storing goods safely, and promptly reporting any hazards or spills ensures a safe working environment for everyone.
Job Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Certification: A valid Forklift Driver’s certificate is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in forklift operation, preferably in a warehouse or retail setting.
- Physical Fitness: This role is physically demanding and requires someone who can handle the physical aspects of loading, unloading, and moving heavy items.
