School Bus Driver and General Facility Support – Curro Academy Pretoria

About the Role

As a School Bus Driver at Curro Academy, you’ll play an essential role in student safety and facility support.

This position offers a unique opportunity to impact students’ daily experiences without stepping into the classroom.

In addition to safe and timely transportation, this position includes general worker duties, from facilities upkeep to supporting our team with security, safety, and minor maintenance tasks across the campus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Learner Transportation

• Operate the school bus on designated routes according to a set schedule, ensuring safe, punctual pick-ups and drop-offs for students.
• Drive students and teachers to field trip destinations, arranging routes, schedules, and stops as required.
• Monitor and maintain discipline onboard, adhering to school policies and promoting a safe, respectful environment.

2. General Facility Maintenance and Support

• Respond to and handle basic maintenance requests, such as minor plumbing repairs, to ensure facilities are in optimal condition.
• Conduct daily checks across the campus, addressing any maintenance needs promptly.
• Coordinate with the Facilities Manager for larger repairs and ensure tools and consumables are properly stored and available.
• Support traffic management, safety, and access control on campus, assisting with visitor and event parking.

3. Garden and Outdoor Upkeep

• Perform daily tasks such as watering plants, maintaining flower beds, and mowing lawns.
• Ensure all gardening tools are stored securely and report any requirements to the Facilities Manager.
• Inspect and maintain outdoor areas, keeping the campus environment clean, attractive, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.

4. Health and Safety Compliance

• Conduct thorough safety inspections of the bus daily, including operational checks on fuel, oil, tires, and other essentials.
• Keep the vehicle clean and sanitary, both inside and out, to provide a safe ride for students and staff.
• Report any necessary mechanical repairs or issues immediately to ensure the vehicle remains roadworthy.
• Participate in regular safety meetings, drills, and training sessions on first aid and updated safety protocols, as mandated by school policy.

5. Accurate Record Keeping

• Maintain detailed records of daily mileage, passenger counts, and any incidents or delays encountered on the road.
• Submit all logs and required documentation promptly to keep accurate records for auditing and compliance purposes.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Educational Background: Matric certificate is required.
• Licensing: A valid Code 10 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of driving experience, preferably in a similar role involving learner transportation.
• Safety and Communication: Strong focus on safety practices with clear communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
• Clean Record: A clear criminal record is mandatory.
