Job Summary

Distell is looking for a highly skilled and reliable Code 14 Driver to join our team in Gauteng. This permanent position is critical for ensuring efficient and timely distribution of our goods to clients across various locations.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Education: Minimum Grade 10 (able to read and write fluently in English and handle numerical tasks)
  • License Requirements: Code EC driver’s license with a valid PrDP (DGP)
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years driving ultra-heavy vehicles
  • Age: Must be 25 years or older
  • Availability: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed

 

  • Additional Skills and Knowledge:
    • Defensive driving techniques
    • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and emergency procedures
    • Inspection and routine maintenance skills for ultra-heavy vehicles
    • Familiarity with vehicle loading techniques to maximise cost-effectiveness
    • Competence in operating a fire extinguisher

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Preparation and Operation: Perform thorough vehicle inspections before trips to ensure readiness and safety. Drive ultra-heavy-duty vehicles to transport goods to various destinations.
  • Loading and Unloading: Safely load, transport, and unload goods, either by operating offloading equipment or supervising the process as required. Ensure loads are properly secured in compliance with the National Road Traffic Act.

 

  • Documentation Handling: Accurately manage all transport documentation, including delivery notes, logs, and reports.
  • Customer Interaction: Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols, keeping a clean driving record and complying with all company policies.
    • Conduct routine vehicle inspections, report any vehicle defects, and maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and driver’s uniform.
  • Additional Duties: Adhere to reasonable instructions from supervisors, participate in regular health checks and training sessions, and complete practical evaluations as part of ongoing professional development.

Additional Compliance Requirements:

  • Medical Evaluation: Must pass a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Training: Complete all USCS training modules, induction processes, and driving evaluations.
  • Record Verification: Must maintain a clean criminal record.
