Purpose of the Role

The Code 10 Driver will play a vital role in ensuring timely, accurate, and secure deliveries. Beyond transportation, this position involves active interaction with customers, staff, and branch operations to maintain our high service standards. The ideal candidate will monitor the loading and offloading of goods, maintain vehicle roadworthiness, and provide outstanding customer service to enhance satisfaction and promote business growth.

Key Responsibilities

As a Code 10 Driver, your duties will include:

1. Delivery Operations:

• Ensure goods are delivered accurately, on time, and in excellent condition.
• Plan and execute efficient delivery routes to meet customer expectations.
• Monitor the loading and offloading of goods to ensure proper handling and avoid damage.
• Verify that all outgoing stock is accompanied by the correct documentation before departure.
• Record transfer documents in the logbook and ensure they are signed by the receiving branch.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:

• Perform daily pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle meets roadworthy standards.
• Document vehicle conditions, including mileage and any issues, in trip sheets.
• Report vehicle defects or maintenance needs promptly by completing a vehicle repair report.
• Ensure the delivery vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and ready for operation at all times.

3. Customer Service:

• Interact courteously and professionally with customers, ensuring their needs are met during deliveries.
• Handle any customer inquiries or concerns with a focus on providing solutions.
• Ensure all stock is delivered in excellent condition to uphold the company’s reputation for quality.

4. Reporting and Documentation:

• Complete daily trip sheets with details of opening and closing mileage, departure times, and arrival times.
• Submit weekly evaluation reports to the Supervisor for review.
• Report any delays or issues encountered during deliveries to the Supervisor immediately.

5. Team Collaboration:

• Work closely with truck assistants, ensuring they are always present with the vehicle during deliveries.
• Participate in stock-taking activities to maintain inventory accuracy.
• Support branch operations by performing additional tasks assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess the following:

Education:

• Matric or equivalent qualification.
• Candidates without Matric but with a valid license and at least 3 years of driving experience will also be considered.

Licensing and Experience:

• Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence (higher codes are advantageous).
• PDP (Public Driving Permit) for goods and passengers.
• A minimum of 3 years of driving experience in a similar role.

Skills and Attributes:

• Strong planning, time management, and organisational skills.
• Excellent customer service abilities with a focus on satisfaction.
• Monitoring skills to ensure smooth operations during loading and offloading.
• Proficiency in reading and communication, enabling clear interaction with staff and customers.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism.
• Knowledge of vehicle loading techniques and requirements.
