Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and responsible Petroleum Tanker Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of an ultra-heavy-duty vehicle with a gross vehicle mass exceeding 25,000 kg.

The role involves transporting petroleum products efficiently and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

This position requires a high level of professionalism, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to manage vehicle operations under various conditions. The driver will also be responsible for ensuring the proper handling of documentation, conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, and maintaining communication with dispatch and supervisors.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4 (or Grade 10 / NQF Level 2).
  • Driver’s License: Code EC with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) – Category D for Dangerous Goods (if applicable).
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience as a petroleum tanker driver.
  • Safety Compliance: A clean driving record with a proven history of safe driving practices.
  • Criminal Record: Must have a clear criminal record.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trip Preparation: Conduct thorough pre-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring that all systems, including brakes, fuel levels, and safety equipment, are in working order before departure.
  • Vehicle Operation: Drive and operate ultra-heavy-duty petroleum tankers in compliance with road safety regulations and company policies.
  • Inspection & Maintenance: Perform routine post-trip inspections and report any defects or mechanical issues to the relevant department.
  • Documentation Handling: Accurately manage trip-related paperwork, including delivery notes, fuel receipts, and dispatch documents. Ensure that all required documentation is completed and submitted correctly.
  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all road safety laws, company protocols, and hazardous material transport regulations to ensure the secure delivery of petroleum products.
  • Roadworthiness: Take full responsibility for ensuring the vehicle is in roadworthy condition before departing from the depot. Report any mechanical issues immediately.
  • Customer Deliveries: Ensure that the correct quantity and type of petroleum products are delivered to the designated locations. Maintain professionalism and efficiency when interacting with customers.
  • Work Schedule: Be prepared to work in a shift-based system, including weekends and public holidays, as required by operational demands.
  • Supervisor Communication: Follow instructions from the supervisor and provide regular updates on delivery progress, delays, or any challenges encountered during transit.
