Job Overview:

The Engineering Unit – Roads Rehabilitation Division in Durban is seeking a skilled Code 14 Heavy Duty Driver to transport materials, equipment, and personnel to various work sites.

This role is essential in supporting asphalt paving operations and ensuring timely delivery and safe handling of goods.

Key Responsibilities:

• Transport Operations: Drive heavy vehicles such as tip trucks and water trucks to and from work sites, adhering to route plans and safety protocols.

• Safety Inspections: Inspect vehicle safety devices, controls, and lubricant levels; report any defects or malfunctions.

• Loading and Offloading: Ensure safe loading/offloading of materials and equipment, correcting deviations from safety procedures.

• Documentation: Complete vehicle checklists, tally sheets, log sheets, and progress reports accurately.

• Material Management: Control and discharge materials (sand, stone, crusher run, etc.) at designated locations.

• Communication: Liaise with the Asphalt Paving office to receive task instructions and provide updates on job progress.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent

• License: Valid Code EC Driver’s License with a valid PrDP

• Experience: Minimum 2 years’ heavy vehicle driving experience (3 years preferred)

• Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle safety and defensive driving

  • Ability to follow instructions and work under pressure

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to complete administrative records accurately

  • Learning orientation and quality focus

Salary and Benefits:

• Annual Salary: R183,098.41 – R237,677.84
