Driver Supervisor Jobs at the City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the positions of Operational Supervisor Driver (T07) and Senior Operational Supervisor Driver (T08) within the Roads Infrastructure Management Department.

Successful candidates will be responsible for supervising maintenance teams, operating heavy-duty municipal vehicles, coordinating road and stormwater maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Position 1: Operational Supervisor Driver (T07)

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 9 or equivalent technical qualification.
  • 1–2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Valid Code EC or EC1 Driver’s Licence.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).

Position 2: Senior Operational Supervisor Driver (T08)

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Matric (Grade 12) will be advantageous.
  • 3–5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Previous experience as an Operational Supervisor Driver.
  • Proven supervisory experience managing teams.
  • Valid Code EC or EC1 Driver’s Licence.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

Operational Activities

  • Performing maintenance-related tasks at depots and work sites.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Completing internal documentation, including tally sheets, log sheets, progress reports, and vehicle checklists.
  • Monitoring and controlling maintenance activities and operational processes.

Supervision and Team Management

  • Supervising work teams and controlling daily operational activities.
  • Allocating work and monitoring employee performance.
  • Ensuring maintenance priorities and requirements are clearly communicated to operational teams.
  • Monitoring progress and ensuring work is completed according to standards and schedules.

Road and Stormwater Maintenance

  • Coordinating road infrastructure repairs and construction activities.
  • Supervising stormwater drainage maintenance and repair work.
  • Performing road-related installation, repair, and maintenance activities.

Vehicle Operation

Senior Operational Supervisor Driver

  • Operating heavy and specialised vehicles, including:
    • Tip Trucks
    • Crane Trucks
    • Other specialised municipal vehicles

Operational Supervisor Driver

  • Operating municipal vehicles during maintenance and infrastructure projects.
  • Ensuring vehicle operations comply with approved procedures and safety standards.

Salary

Operational Supervisor Driver (T07)

Basic Salary: From R245,549 per annum

Senior Operational Supervisor Driver (T08)

Basic Salary: Up to R316,541 per annum
