Code 14 Driver Vacancy at BME

BME, a division of Omnia and a leading supplier of explosives and blasting solutions to the mining industry, is seeking experienced Driver (Packaged Distribution) candidates to join its team in Gauteng.

The successful candidates will be responsible for transporting products and raw materials safely within and outside the plant while ensuring compliance with all safety, health, environmental, risk, and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) Driver’s Licence.
  • Valid Dangerous Goods Permit (DGP).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ proven truck or tractor driving experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a production environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience within an explosives environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation and Distribution

  • Transport products and raw materials safely within the plant and to external destinations.
  • Ensure all deliveries are completed according to company procedures and schedules.
  • Operate heavy vehicles safely under varying road and environmental conditions.
  • Maintain compliance with transport and dangerous goods regulations.

Operational Support

  • Perform Packaged Distribution Assistant duties when required.
  • Support distribution and logistics operations within the department.
  • Assist with maintaining efficient workflow and product movement.

Safety, Health and Compliance

  • Adhere to all SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality) standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety and operational excellence.
  • Follow all company policies and operational procedures related to explosives transportation and handling.

Required Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong truck driving skills in all road and weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of safe transportation procedures for regulated products.
  • Mechanical aptitude will be advantageous.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot vehicle or operational issues.
