Job Overview

Unitrans is seeking an experienced Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join its Pressurised Bulk operation in Tulisa Park. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently while complying with company procedures, road safety legislation, and operational standards.

This position is ideal for professional Code EC drivers with experience operating ultra-heavy vehicles in a logistics or transport environment.

Key Responsibilities

As an Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, you will:

• Prepare the vehicle before every trip.
• Operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Load, transport and offload goods.
• Complete all required delivery and transport documentation.
• Carry out vehicle inspections before and after each trip.
• Ensure loads are properly secured before departure.
• Prevent vehicle overloading in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
• Open and close tarpaulins where required.
• Assist with or supervise the offloading process.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure PPE and uniforms are in good condition.
• Report vehicle defects, breakdowns and emergencies promptly.
• Deliver excellent customer service during collections and deliveries.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
• Be available to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Good verbal and numerical literacy.
• Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP – DGP).
• At least 3 years’ experience driving ultra-heavy motor vehicles.
• Be 25 years or older.
• A clean criminal record.
• A safe driving record.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of:

• Defensive driving techniques.
• Vehicle components and their functions.
• Emergency and defect reporting procedures.
• Vehicle inspections and fire extinguisher operation.
• Vehicle loading and load securing techniques.
• Maximising vehicle efficiency and reducing operating costs.
• Road safety legislation and transport regulations.
