Job Overview

Unitrans is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join its Consumer Division in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of goods to various customers while ensuring compliance with road transport legislation, company procedures, and safety standards.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Code 14 drivers who have a proven track record operating ultra-heavy commercial vehicles and are committed to delivering excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles for trips and conduct comprehensive pre-trip inspections.
• Safely operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles in accordance with road traffic regulations and company procedures.
• Load, transport, and offload goods efficiently and safely.
• Ensure all loads are correctly secured before departure.
• Operate or oversee offloading equipment during deliveries.
• Open and secure tarpaulins where applicable.
• Complete and manage all required transport and delivery documentation.
• Ensure vehicles are not overloaded in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
• Conduct post-trip inspections and report defects immediately.
• Maintain cleanliness of vehicles, uniforms, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and company policies.
• Provide professional and courteous customer service during deliveries.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
• Grade 10 literacy level with verbal and numerical proficiency.
• Valid Code 14 (EC) Driver’s Licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Dangerous Goods Permit (DGP).
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating ultra-heavy commercial vehicles.
• Must be 25 years of age or older.
• Safe driving record.
• Clear criminal record.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

• Vehicle inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle components and basic fault identification.
• Emergency response and defect reporting procedures.
• Fire extinguisher operation and safety compliance.
