Job Overview
Unitrans is looking for an experienced Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to safely transport and distribute goods to various clients under its Sasol Local contract in Secunda.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating ultra-heavy vehicles, ensuring loads are secured and compliant, completing vehicle inspections, and maintaining high standards of safety and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicles for trips and operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles safely.
- Load, transport and offload goods.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure vehicles are not overloaded in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- Secure loads before departure and operate tarpaulins where applicable.
- Operate or oversee offloading equipment where required.
- Complete trip documentation and other required paperwork.
- Report vehicle defects, emergencies, incidents and accidents.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, PPE and general housekeeping.
- Follow company SOPs, safety procedures and road traffic regulations.
- Deal professionally with customers.
- Work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate.
- Grade 10 literacy level with verbal and numerical literacy.
- Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
- Valid PrDP (DGP).
- Minimum 3 years’ ultra-heavy vehicle driving experience.
- Must be 25 years or older.
- Safe driving record.
- Clean criminal record.
- Willingness to undergo medical evaluation, induction and practical driving assessment.
- Willingness to complete required USCS training modules.
Skills and Competencies
- Defensive driving skills.
- Knowledge of heavy vehicle components and operation.
- Vehicle inspection and defect reporting.
- Knowledge of vehicle loading and load-securing procedures.
- Understanding of road safety requirements.
- Ability to operate a fire extinguisher.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
