Job Overview

RCL Foods is looking for a driven, highly energised and customer-focused Feeder Driver to join its Baking business unit in Durban.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe loading, offloading and transportation of bread, crates and confectionery between the bakery and depot.

The position reports to the Distribution Manager.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Matric/Grade 12.

Licence and Experience

• Valid Code 14/EC driver’s licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP/PrDP).
• Minimum three years’ driving experience on a Code 14 licence.
• Drawbar experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle and Driver Duties

• Maintain a clean vehicle and ensure high hygiene standards at all times.
• Keep the driving compartment clean and safe in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Conduct vehicle inspections using the company’s prescribed checklist.
• Record any vehicle faults on the checklist and sign to acknowledge the vehicle’s condition.
• Immediately report serious faults to the Transport Supervisor/Fleet Controller and ensure the vehicle is sent to the workshop.
• Comply with all statutory road rules and regulations to ensure the safety of yourself, passengers and other road users.
• Immediately report theft of the vehicle, fuel or equipment, as well as any vehicle damage.
• Report damage to third-party vehicles or property immediately.
• Immediately report accidents and hijackings and follow the required standard operating procedures.

Stock and Loading

• Check that vehicles are safely loaded to ensure road safety is not compromised.
• Ensure products are protected from damage during transportation.
• Assist with loading and offloading as required.

Van Assistant Management

• Ensure the assigned van assistant is present for duty.
• Report any absence to the Route Controller.
• Report performance-related concerns regarding the van assistant to the supervisor.

Deliveries and Transport

• Collect returns and crates from depots.
• Transport products, personnel, materials and equipment between the bakery and depot.
• Perform crate recovery duties when required.

Documentation and Transactional Duties

Accurately complete and handle required documentation, including:

• Invoices.
• Delivery notes.
• Loading schedules.
• Crate control documents.
• Vehicle log sheets.
• Fuel slips.
• Vehicle inspection checklists.
• Other relevant operational documentation.

General Duties

• Take appropriate precautions to protect company property and assets.
• Assist with other driver-related duties when not performing depot functions.
• Comply with company policies, safety requirements and standard operating procedures.
