Job Purpose

The Driver will be responsible for delivering stock to customers according to planned delivery schedules while maintaining high standards of customer service, safety, compliance and professionalism.

The role is accountable for the operation of the assigned work area and for meeting required quality, standards and delivery outputs in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery Operations

  • Manage and control the delivery process from preparation through to completion.
  • Prepare for the following day’s deliveries.
  • Follow the required start-up procedure.
  • Independently check truck stock and ensure all checks are completed and signed.
  • Follow the defined delivery route and schedule.
  • Deliver stock accurately and efficiently to customers.
  • Return to the depot within the specified timeframe.
  • Ensure all delivery documentation is correctly signed, consolidated and returned.

Customer Service

  • Provide a consistently high standard of customer service during deliveries.
  • Treat customers and consumers with respect and courtesy.
  • Keep customers informed about the products being delivered and the progress of the offloading process.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Distribution Controller / Expeditor.
  • Provide feedback regarding delivery progress and any delays.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate issues where necessary.

Safety, Health and Environment

  • Maintain a safe, healthy and risk-free working environment.
  • Comply with all company safety and health policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Complete a pre-trip inspection before every journey.
  • Report all non-compliant items identified during inspections to management.
  • Practise Green Band driving at all times.
  • Follow the Truck Lock Out Procedure during every loading sequence.
  • Comply with all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Follow all Safety, Health and Environment requirements.
  • Keep vehicles clean, presentable and in good condition.

Food Safety Requirements

The successful candidate must understand and comply with The Beverage Company’s food safety requirements, including:

  • Adhere to the company’s Food Safety Policy and objectives.
  • Follow all food safety policies, SOPs and prerequisite programmes (PRPs).
  • Comply with PPE requirements and the company’s jewellery policy.
  • Maintain appropriate personal hygiene standards.
  • Participate in required training and competency assessments.
  • Practise regular hand washing and sanitising.
  • Prevent product cross-contamination.
  • Report food safety risks to the relevant Team Leader or Food Safety personnel.
  • Report any illness or communicable disease before starting a shift.
  • Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and hygiene.
  • Remain alert to food defence and food fraud risks.
  • Support the organisation’s food safety culture.
  • Maintain a zero-compromise approach to product quality and safety.
  • Work with the internal food safety team to support GFSI certification and continuous improvement.

Loading, Unloading and Documentation

  • Independently check all loads to confirm that the correct quantities have been loaded.
  • Accurately record returned stock.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Warehouse Supervisor and other team members.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and comprehensively.
  • Ensure stock is checked, loaded and unloaded correctly.

Technology and Systems

  • Fully utilise technological solutions implemented by the company.
  • Comply with minimum operating requirements for mobile phone-based technology.
  • Remain familiar with relevant company information, policies, processes and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4.
  • Valid Code 14 driver’s licence.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Up to 3 years’ experience in FMCG operational execution.
