Job Overview

As an Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, you will be responsible for operating vehicles with a gross vehicle mass or gross combination mass of up to 56,000 kg. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth transportation of goods within the agricultural supply chain, and it requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12, Matric, or an NQF level 4 qualification.
  • Driver’s License: A valid Code EC PrDP (Professional Driving Permit). If you will be operating a Dangerous Goods (DG) vehicle, a “D” endorsement on your PrDP is necessary.
  • Experience: Up to 3 years of experience driving ultra-heavy vehicles.
  • Safety Record: A clean criminal record and a proven safe driving history.
  • Defensive Driving: Proficiency in defensive driving techniques to ensure safety on the road.
  • Compliance: Willingness to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safety Procedures.
  • Additional Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete several evaluations and processes, including:
    • Medical evaluation
    • USCS training modules
    • Induction processes
    • Practical driving evaluation
    • Verification of a clean criminal record
    • Vehicle inspections and training on operating a fire extinguisher

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be tasked with a variety of duties, all aimed at ensuring the safe and efficient transport of goods. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Vehicle Preparation: Preparing ultra-heavy vehicles for trips, ensuring that they are in good working condition.
  • Operation of Vehicles: Operating ultra-heavy-duty vehicles in compliance with all relevant laws and safety standards.
  • Vehicle Inspections: Conducting thorough vehicle inspections both before and after trips to identify any issues that need addressing.
  • Loading and Transporting Goods: You will be responsible for the loading, transporting, and offloading of goods. This includes ensuring that all goods are accounted for and securely loaded before departure.
  • Customer Interaction: Dealing with customers in a professional and efficient manner, ensuring that all interactions reflect positively on the company.
  • Documentation Handling: Managing all necessary documentation from dispatch to customer delivery and back to the distribution centre.
  • Roadworthiness: Taking full responsibility for the roadworthiness of the vehicle before leaving the depot. This includes ensuring that the vehicle is not overloaded, as per the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Compliance: Adhering to all instructions and performing any other reasonable duties as instructed.
