Key Responsibilities

As a Petroleum Tanker Driver, your primary duties will include:

  1. Vehicle Preparation and Inspection:
    • Prepare the vehicle for daily operations by performing thorough pre-trip inspections.
    • Conduct post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle remains in roadworthy condition.
    • Report any defects or maintenance requirements promptly to the supervisor.
  2. Vehicle Operation:
    • Safely operate ultra-heavy-duty vehicles, adhering to all road traffic regulations.
    • Maintain a defensive driving approach to ensure the safety of all road users.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Manage all required trip documentation, including dispatch orders, delivery receipts, and return records.
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of paperwork, complying with company standards.
  4. Roadworthiness Accountability:
    • Take full responsibility for the vehicle’s roadworthiness before leaving the depot.
    • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, particularly for transporting hazardous materials.
  5. Goods Handling and Delivery:
    • Account for all goods being transported, ensuring accurate delivery to customers.
    • Oversee the loading and offloading process to prevent damage or loss.
  6. Shift and Weekend Work:
    • Be prepared to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays, as required.
  7. Adherence to Instructions:
    • Follow all reasonable instructions from the supervisor to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background:
    • Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4) or Grade 10 (NQF Level 2).
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Valid Code EC driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
    • “D” endorsement on PrDP if operating a Dangerous Goods (DG) vehicle.
  • Experience:
    • At least 3 years of proven experience as a petroleum tanker driver.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • A clean driving record with no at-fault accidents in the past three years.
    • A clear criminal record.
    • Strong understanding of road safety and defensive driving techniques.
