Professional Bus Driver Vacancy in Kathu

Unitrans is looking for experienced and professional Bus Drivers to join its Mega Bus operation in Kathu, Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting passengers safely and efficiently along scheduled routes while maintaining the highest standards of customer service, safety, and professionalism.

This role is suited to qualified passenger transport drivers with proven experience operating buses and a strong commitment to road safety.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• Valid Code EC Driver’s Licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) with Passenger (P) and General Goods (G) categories.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar bus driving position.
• Excellent knowledge of road traffic legislation and road safety practices.
• Strong understanding of defensive and preventative driving techniques.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, overtime, and shifts as required.

Advantageous

• Dover Permit.
• Red Permit.
• Previous experience in commercial passenger transport operations.

Key Responsibilities

Passenger Transport Services

• Transport passengers safely to and from designated destinations.
• Ensure passengers arrive at their destinations according to scheduled routes and timetables.
• Assist passengers when boarding and disembarking where required.
• Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach at all times.

Vehicle Operation and Safety

• Operate buses in accordance with road traffic legislation and company policies.
• Apply defensive driving techniques to ensure passenger and road user safety.
• Monitor traffic, road, and weather conditions to maintain safe operations.
• Ensure adherence to authorised routes and schedules.

Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance

• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Identify and report vehicle defects, breakdowns, or maintenance requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness of the bus interior and exterior.
• Ensure the vehicle remains roadworthy and safe for operation.

Administration and Compliance

• Complete trip logs and transport documentation accurately.
• Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately.
• Comply with company procedures, code of conduct, and operational standards.
• Attend mandatory safety meetings and training programmes.
