About the Learnership

Unitrans is offering a structured Truck Driver Learnership for qualifying unemployed South African youth who want to build a career in professional driving and the transport industry.

The programme leads to the Occupational Certificate: Truck Driver NQF Level 3 and combines classroom-based learning, workplace training and practical driving experience.

Successful learners will be exposed to modern commercial vehicle operations, including technology such as telematics and on-board fleet systems.

Programme Duration

  • 12 to 18 months
  • Classroom-based theoretical training
  • On-the-job workplace training
  • Minimum 100 practical driving hours
  • Final competency assessment
  • External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA)

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
  • Valid PrDP with the required categories D, G and P.
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate.
  • Medically fit.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • A degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Economics or a related field will be advantageous.

Learnership Responsibilities

Successful learners will be required to:

  • Attend compulsory classroom training.
  • Complete workplace-based training.
  • Gain practical driving experience.
  • Complete at least 100 practical driving hours before the final assessment.
  • Apply road safety and energy-efficiency standards.
  • Learn to operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Complete the final competency assessment.
  • Complete the compulsory EISA.

Documents Required

Applicants should submit certified copies not older than three months of:

  • South African ID.
  • Matric certificate.
  • Code EC driver’s licence.
  • PrDP.
  • Other relevant qualifications, where applicable.
