Job Overview

Pepkor Lifestyle is seeking a skilled and dependable Linehaul Driver to transport freight safely and efficiently between designated hubs and distribution centres.

The position operates within the PLL Linehaul structure, supporting both PAXI deliveries and consumer goods movement. The role involves long-distance driving and high-volume freight transportation.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence
• Valid PDP/PrDP
• Minimum 3 years’ experience driving 6×4 truck tractors
• Experience with truck tractors such as Scania, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo or MAN
• Minimum 3 years’ trailer experience with either:
  • 3-axle, 14.5m dry or refrigerated trailers, or
  • 6m x 12m tautliner trailers
• Clear criminal record
• Clear driving record
• South African citizen with a valid SA ID
• Minimum 3 contactable references, subject to full verification

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty vehicles between hubs and distribution centres.
• Complete pickups and deliveries according to scheduled routes and timeframes.
• Comply with road traffic laws, safety regulations and company procedures.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and mechanically ready for operation.
• Secure freight properly to prevent shifting, loss or damage.
• Maintain accurate mileage and driving-hour records.

• Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules.
• Maintain regular communication with dispatchers.
• Report delays, incidents, vehicle faults and other operational issues promptly.
• Perform basic vehicle maintenance and fault diagnosis where required.
• Handle freight according to company procedures.
• Maintain professional service standards throughout the delivery process.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Basic mechanical knowledge and truck fault-diagnosis skills
• Experience handling and securing different types of freight
• Strong trailer-handling experience
• Background in freight logistics or transport operations
• Good understanding of heavy vehicle safety and road regulations
• Ability to work independently on long-distance routes

Working Conditions

• Long-distance routes with possible overnight stays
