Job Overview

SPAR Gqeberha is seeking a responsible and safety-conscious Extra Heavy Duty Driver to carry out deliveries to SPAR stores. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely, accurately and on schedule while ensuring proper vehicle operation, load security, documentation and compliance with company safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate company vehicles safely and protect company vehicles, goods and other assets during deliveries.
• Check all delivery documentation before, during and after each trip.
• Verify goods with receiving staff and assist with offloading when required.
• Deliver goods to SPAR stores accurately, safely and according to planned delivery schedules.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report defects to Management.
• Operate tail lifts, refrigeration equipment, tautliner curtains and shoring bars where required.
• Perform coupling and uncoupling procedures safely.
• Monitor the loading and offloading of stock to ensure correct handling.
• Check returned goods, damaged stock, claims, company assets and recyclable materials collected from stores.
• Secure loads properly inside the trailer to prevent movement and further damage during transportation.
• Ensure all relevant documents are completed accurately, stamped and signed.
• Return toll cards after use and refuel the truck after every delivery.
• Meet established driver performance and vehicle housekeeping standards.
• Comply with all company safety practices, policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct when interacting with store personnel and customers.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience in a similar heavy-duty driving or transport role.
• Effective communication skills.
• Intermediate English proficiency in reading, speaking and writing.
• Ability to complete and check delivery documentation accurately.
• Knowledge of safe vehicle operation, load security and delivery procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions, meet delivery schedules and comply with safety requirements.
• Customer service training or willingness to complete the required training.
