Job Overview

Unitrans has an opportunity for two qualified Diesel Mechanics at its PPC Riebeeck West operation in the Western Cape.

The successful candidates will be responsible for servicing, repairing and maintaining the mechanical components of the fleet operating on site. This includes yellow equipment, earthmoving machinery and ancillary vehicles, while ensuring that all maintenance work meets operational, safety and legal requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Trade Certificate in Diesel Mechanics.
• Must be a qualified artisan or have completed a recognised 5-year apprenticeship.
• Valid driver’s licence, preferably Code EC.
• At least 3 years’ experience working in a mining environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Servicing and Maintenance

• Service yellow equipment and ancillary vehicles according to predefined maintenance checklists.
• Conduct routine maintenance on earthmoving equipment operating on site.
• Ensure that fleet equipment is maintained in good working condition.
• Ensure vehicles comply with legal requirements and company policies, including roadworthiness standards.

2. Repairs and Fault Diagnosis

• Carry out repairs and maintenance on earthmoving equipment.
• Diagnose, identify and rectify mechanical faults on equipment.
• Plan repair and maintenance procedures.
• Attend to equipment breakdowns and carry out the necessary repairs to minimise operational downtime.

3. Health, Safety and Compliance

• Apply all relevant occupational health and safety rules and regulations when performing duties.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety procedures and operational standards.

4. Reporting and General Duties

• Provide regular reports to management regarding equipment breakdowns, servicing and maintenance activities.
• Perform additional duties related to the position as assigned by management.
