Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Education: A minimum of Grade 12 / Matric (NQF level 4). Applicants with Grade 10 (NQF level 2) will also be considered.
  • Licensing: Possession of a valid Code EC driver’s licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). A “D” PrDP is required for vehicles transporting Dangerous Goods (DG).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of proven experience as a petroleum tanker driver.
  • Safety Record: A clean driving record with no history of accidents, coupled with a clean criminal record.

Key Responsibilities

As a Petroleum Tanker Driver, your role is pivotal to the success of our operations. You will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Vehicle Preparation and Inspections

  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Ensure all vehicle components, including brakes, lights, and tires, are in optimal working condition.
  • Take full responsibility for the vehicle’s condition before departing the depot.

2. Ultra-Heavy-Duty Vehicle Operations

  • Safely operate vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) or gross combination mass (GCM) exceeding 25,000 kg.
  • Navigate through various terrains and road conditions while adhering to traffic laws and company policies.

3. Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Manage all dispatch documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness when delivering products to customers and returning to the depot.
  • Maintain detailed records of fuel deliveries, including quantities, delivery times, and customer signatures.

4. Compliance with Safety and Operational Standards

  • Follow all Dangerous Goods (DG) handling regulations to ensure the safe transportation of petroleum products.
  • Adhere strictly to company policies regarding the handling and delivery of petroleum.

5. Delivery Accountability

  • Take full accountability for all products being transported, ensuring that the correct quantities are delivered to the correct customers.
  • Handle customer interactions professionally, ensuring excellent service and addressing any concerns promptly.

6. Shift Flexibility

  • Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required to meet operational demands.
  • Adapt to a dynamic work schedule to accommodate urgent deliveries or operational changes.

7. Team Collaboration and Communication

  • Coordinate closely with supervisors and other team members to ensure seamless operations.
  • Follow all reasonable instructions from supervisors to meet company objectives.
