Job Overview

PPC is seeking an experienced Mixer Driver to join its Pronto delivery operation at Steyn City.

The successful candidate will operate a specialised concrete mixer truck, transporting concrete to construction sites and operating the mixer to safely and efficiently discharge loads. The role requires at least three years’ experience operating concrete mixer trucks, strong knowledge of road transport legislation and the ability to operate different types of heavy vehicles and transmissions.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12
• External driver certification
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar concrete mixer driving role
• Valid Code 14 / EC driver’s licence
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
• Ability to operate:
  • Straight gearbox
  • Automatic transmission
  • Semi-automatic transmission
  • Split gearbox
• Experience with Mercedes-Benz, FAW and FUSO vehicles
• Ability to read, write and perform basic calculations
• Good human relations and interpersonal skills
• High level of responsibility and accountability
• Knowledge of applicable road transport legislation
• Physically fit and healthy
• Medically fit for the requirements of the role
• Good eyesight, hearing and speech
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle and Mixer Inspection

• Inspect the vehicle and concrete mixer before the start of daily operations.
• Check that the vehicle and mixer are in suitable condition to complete scheduled work.
• Continuously inspect the vehicle for defects or abnormalities.
• Report any vehicle or equipment problems to the Supervisor immediately.
• Ensure the vehicle and mixer are cleaned and properly greased.
• Monitor and manage tyre condition and related requirements.

Concrete Delivery

• Drive the mixer truck safely to and from construction sites.
• Transport concrete loads according to scheduled delivery requirements.
• Obtain and plan suitable routes to required construction sites.
• Ensure loads are transported safely and within the required timeframes.
• Operate the concrete mixer to discharge and offload the load at the designated site.
• Follow daily operational instructions and delivery schedules.

Safety and Compliance

• Comply with all applicable traffic rules and road transport legislation.
• Follow PPC company policies, procedures and safety requirements.
• Conduct continuous checks for vehicle defects and report issues promptly.
• Maintain a high level of responsibility when operating heavy vehicles and handling concrete loads.
• Ensure the vehicle remains in a safe and roadworthy operating condition.
