Job Description

Apprenticeship (x40) – AFGRI South Africa

Reference Number: AO-1630
Job Title: Apprenticeship
Job Type: Contract
Location: South Africa
Closing Date: 13 October 2024

Description:
AFGRI is offering an exciting Apprenticeship training program at our various branches in South Africa. We seek dynamic, self-motivated individuals with the necessary technical ability, wishing to qualify as an Artisan. This Apprenticeship Program provides the opportunity to grow within AFGRI under the mentorship of our leaders, informal training, and on-the-job development rotations in multidisciplinary teams.

This apprenticeship will be a 3-year in-service training experience towards a qualification as a Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic. The first 6 months serve as a probation period. During this time, both the company and the apprentice can evaluate the fit without any long-term commitment. After the probation period, the apprentice will be bound by an AFGRI contract and start actual training.

Training Includes:

  • Practical training at a Practical Training Institute (if needed)
  • Distance learning for N subjects at a College (if needed and available)
  • Saturday classes for distance learning
  • Product training at the John Deere Training Facility in Boksburg and other suppliers
  • Internal training hosted by AFGRI Specialists

Training costs are covered by AFGRI if passed. Any failed training must be redone at the apprentice’s own time and cost. Apprentices are bound by a 3-year contract with AFGRI. If an apprentice withdraws during the apprenticeship or the “work-back period,” there will be costs involved. The apprentice is expected to work back the time it took to qualify. The contract cannot be extended beyond 4 years.
