Job Overview

Unitrans is looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Shunter Driver to join its Mega Bus operation in Kathu, Northern Cape.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely moving and positioning buses within the depot and between operational areas, including workshops, maintenance facilities, bus wash areas and parking zones. The role is essential to ensuring buses are correctly positioned and available for operations or maintenance when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely move buses around the company premises and between different operational sections.
• Position buses correctly for maintenance and workshop activities.
• Conduct road tests on buses when requested by artisans or workshop supervisors.
• Park buses in designated areas according to company procedures.
• Drive buses through automated or manual bus wash facilities.
• Safely drive buses onto and off vehicle inspection and maintenance pits.
• Ensure all vehicle movements are conducted in accordance with safety procedures.
• Maintain strong awareness of surrounding vehicles, pedestrians and obstacles.
• Follow all company policies, workshop procedures and applicable road safety regulations.
• Report any vehicle defects, safety concerns or incidents to the relevant supervisor.
• Maintain a professional and safety-focused approach when handling company vehicles.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
• Valid Code 14 driver’s licence.
• Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit).
• Ability to safely operate and manoeuvre buses in confined depot and workshop environments.
• Good understanding of vehicle safety procedures and regulations.
