Job Overview

Unitrans has an opportunity for a high-calibre Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to distribute goods to various clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of ultra-heavy vehicles, transporting and offloading goods while complying with company and road safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate.
• Grade 10 literacy level – verbally and numerically literate.
• Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
• Valid PrDP (DGP).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience operating ultra-heavy vehicles.
• Must be 25 years or older.
• Safe driving record.
• Clean criminal record.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
• Knowledge of vehicle components and their functions.
• Knowledge of vehicle inspection and emergency reporting procedures.
• Understanding of vehicle loading techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the vehicle for each trip.
• Operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Load, transport and offload goods.
• Ensure the vehicle is not overloaded in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
• Ensure loads are properly secured before departure.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and report defects.
• Handle trip, delivery and other required documentation.
• Operate offloading equipment or supervise the offloading process.
• Open and close tarpaulins where applicable.
• Maintain good housekeeping of the vehicle, uniform and PPE.
• Follow company SOPs and safety procedures.
• Deal with customers in a professional and efficient manner.
• Follow reasonable instructions from the supervisor.
• Work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
