Job Overview

Unitrans has an opportunity for an experienced Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to transport and distribute goods to various clients. The successful candidate must have strong safety awareness, a clean driving record and experience operating ultra-heavy vehicles.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate.
• Grade 10 literacy level – verbally and numerically literate.
• Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
• Valid PrDP (DGP).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience driving ultra-heavy vehicles.
• Must be 25 years or older.
• Safe driving record and clean criminal record.
• Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
• Knowledge of vehicle components and operating procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle inspection and emergency reporting procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle loading techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the vehicle for trips and operate ultra-heavy vehicles safely.
• Load, transport and offload goods.
• Ensure loads are properly secured before departure.
• Ensure vehicles are not overloaded in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and report defects.
• Complete and handle required trip and delivery documentation.
• Operate offloading equipment or oversee the offloading process.
• Open and close tarpaulins where applicable.
• Maintain good housekeeping of the vehicle, uniform and PPE.
• Follow company SOPs and safety procedures.

• Deal professionally and efficiently with customers.
• Report any incidents, defects or operational issues to the supervisor.
• Complete all required training, induction and practical driving assessments.

Pre-employment Requirements

Successful candidates may be required to complete:

• Medical evaluation.
• USCS training modules.
• Company induction.
• Practical driving evaluation.
• Criminal record verification.
